Well, it depends on what you mean by have. To begin, let me ask: Can a christian give place to the devil? Since Ephesians 4:27 warns us to not give place to the devil, the answer to that is yes. And if a Christian can give place to the devil, it goes without saying that a christian can, at the very least, be oppressed or afflicted by a demon or more.
In Luke chapter 13 verses 11 to 13 there was a woman with a “spirit of infirmity” whom Jesus had healed. The pharisees weren’t too happy with Jesus for healing her. Jesus referred to this woman as a daughter of Abraham whom satan had bound. If she’s a daughter of Abraham, it simply means she’s of the household of faith. There is no clearer example than this.
So this still leaves that common question: How can the Holy Spirit and a demon dwell in the same temple? We know what 1st Corinthians chapter 6 verses 19 to 20 says. The Holy Spirit dwells in the believer. Ephesians chapter 1 verse 13 tells us that a christian is sealed with the Holy Spirit. But when it comes to the location of a demon in regards to a believer we don’t have similarly clear cut verses. And we do not need one. The daughter of Abraham was bound by satan. So while a christian cannot be possessed by a demon, as in owned by a demon, they can be bound or afflicted by demons. To paint a picture, just like someone can be physically bound with chains, so too can they be spiritually. Such spiritual chains can be bound on the mind or soul of someone, causing mental or physical torment and or affliction. Those chains don’t own the christian. They are just binding or hindering the christian causing distress either in the mind, soul or body of the believer.
If you’re a christian and you find yourself experiencing unrelenting torment like nightmares, intrusive thoughts, depression, fear, chronic sickness, paranormal activity and more, know that God wants to set you free. The devil doesn’t want you to know his handiwork is the source because God’s matchless power is able to break every chain. So seek your freedom today by crying out to God. Remove anything in your life or renounce anything that could be giving place to the devil, and like the woman with the infirmity, be in the presence of Jesus. There was an ex-leaper who came back to give thanks to God and he wasn’t just healed but due to his heart’s posture, was also made whole. Likewise, with a humbled and grateful heart, Jesus can also make you…whole.
